A FLYFISHING STATE OF MIND
AT THE LAZY K BAR RANCH !!

It doesn't get any better than this!

We have about 4 miles of private creek at the guest ranch and an additional 3+ miles at the home ranch, both of which offer excellent fly fishing for Rainbow and Brook Trout. Our guests are asked to limit themselves to fly fishing only and practice catch and release conservation.  We also have fishing privileges on over 25 miles of private water on the Yellowstone River, Boulder River, Big Timber Creek, Sweet Grass Creek, and Otter Creek, to name just a few. If this is not enough to keep you going (it should be...) there are 21 rivers and streams within 20 miles of Big Timber, MT, that offer many varied fishing opportunities.  And if that is not enough, we also fish some of the best "Trophy Lakes" in our area.

Sunset on the water. Copyright 1998 John M. Kirby    Late July through labor day is the best time to come for fishing. Although much depends on the amount of snowpack and our spring weather, it is safe to say the larger rivers fish best in late July and early August, while the smaller, more intimate mountain streams are best the last two weeks of August and first part of September. May, June, early July, and September are best for the trophy ponds.   John Kirby is normally available to point our guests in the right direction and offer some basic instruction, advice, and encouragement.  Discounted guided trips and Yellowstone floats are usually available for ranch guests.
