Well, maritime does have to do with water - and ancient mariner sounds good - and it's pretty easy to remember.  More to the point, John served in the Naval Reserve for 30 years and 3 days and retired as a Captain after averaging about 120 days a year in the service.   He completed seven independent Command Tours and four major staff tours, including the US Naval War College and Naval Doctrine Command.   His last tour was as Commander, Naval Reserve Battle Group Staff Three, which supported deployed operations of the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) Battle Group in the Persian Gulf.  His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.
